Derek has been providing leadership coaching for individuals and teams since 2006 working with private firms, government institutions, large hospital organizations, and start-up companies. Most recently, he has coached leaders at the IRS, Denver Public Schools, Trinity Health Systems and the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative.
Derek has 16 years of business experience, having spent the majority of his career in start-up electronic trading firms as a Systems Engineer and Director of Infrastructure/Internal Coach. Derek has experience and acumen into aligning department and firm strategies, leadership development, management and the entrepreneurial/start-up mindset.
His comprehensive and diverse professional background enables him to provide insight and guidance to a wide range of leaders and industries. One of Derek’s strengths is helping leaders successfully transition through levels of leadership from manager to executive.
He is energetic and charismatic with a genuine curiosity in others. He prides himself on being a life-long learner with a heartfelt commitment to professional coaching, self-development, transformational change and lasting powerful results.

Derek uses a direct and engaging approach to help leaders and teams identify behaviors and traits that promote or detract from leadership effectiveness. Via assessments, powerful conversations, observation and feedback, Derek helps leaders and teams maximize their strengths, enhance performance and develop leadership authenticity. Taking into account the systems in which all leaders work and live Derek blends action/reflection, challenge/support and practice/learning to help his clients discover their path for leadership development and create their own unique leadership style.
Education, Training & Certifications
Derek has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois and a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. He is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) though the International Coach Federation. Derek is certified in and gives consultation on The Leadership Circle Profile 360 suite of assessment tools.
