Taking action is important to successful leadership. You can read all the books, talk all the talk, but unless you take action, you are a hollow leader. Leaders who pay only lip service without actionable follow through will not be in leadership for long. They will eventually lose the respect and loyalty of their followers and damage the health of the team and organization.
Turn your words into action
Following through on your word and your intention is critical to integrity and respect. How many of us have heard from a boss or leader that they “will keep an ear out for you” or “will look into that” without ever coming through. The lack of action speaks louder than any impassioned speech. Real leaders are in a state of motion, following through on their words and taking the steps necessary no matter how difficult. Leaders who talk a lot but do not follow through become stagnant. In a world where adapting to change is critical to success, leaders cannot afford to stand pat, they must take action.
Be a doing leader vs. a talking leader
No matter the challenge or consequence, action determines the success or failure of your leadership. The choice is yours. Decide to set an example and inspire excellence through action instead of creating an environment short on integrity and results.
